In the previous chapter of Once, It Was Love, Mako, and Kazuki are planning their wedding anniversary. They go out to a posh restaurant for a romantic dinner. They exchange gifts and express their affection for one another. They also discuss their previous encounters and how they met.
A phone call from Kanako cuts their joyful time short. She acts ill and asks Kazuki to her house. Kazuki tells Mako he has an essential work crisis and abandons her at the restaurant. Mako suspects Kazuki and tracks him down to Kanako’s residence. She notices them kissing passionately on the couch. Her betrayal has wounded her, and she escapes in tears.
She rushes to Tatsuo on the street and tells him everything that has happened. Tatsuo comforts her by holding her. He also tells her that he loves her more than any other person on the earth. Meanwhile, Kazuki discovers a note on his phone from Mako, indicating that she is aware of his affair with Kanako. He feels both guilty and afraid of losing Mako.
